Gabe Pressman

Gabe Pressman was a journalist best known for his work as the senior correspondent for WNBC-TV and for covering celebrities, politics, protests, and such landmark events as the 1956 sinking of the Italian oceanliner Andrea Doria, the arrival of the Beatles in 1964 and the riots at the 1968 Democratic National Convention.

He notably interviewed Fidel Castro, Golda Meir, Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Robert F. Kennedy, Malcolm X, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Eleanor Roosevelt and every president from Harry Truman to Bill Clinton.

Pressman started his career as a reporter for The Newark Evening News in 1947, and wrote for the Overseas News Agency and The Times, and was a World-Telegram reporter. Later he moved on to WRCA radio, then in 1956 began his television career at WRCA-TV, a forerunner of WNBC.

During his tenure, Pressman won 11 News Emmys, a Peabody and a George Polk Award.
