Dave Michener

Dave Michener was an American animator and story artist.

His first job in animation came when Walt Disney saw his work at the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles. Disney offered Michener a job upon graduation. Within weeks of being hired, Michener was animating on the original Mickey Mouse Club television show.

His first job in animation came when Walt Disney saw his work at the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles. Disney offered Michener a job upon graduation. Within weeks of being hired, Michener was animating on the original Mickey Mouse Club television show.

Soon after, he was assigned to work on feature films. Over the course of his 31 years at the studio, Michener contributed his artistic talents to such classic Disney films as Sleeping Beauty, One Hundred and One Dalmatians, Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day, The Aristocats, Robin Hood, The Rescuers, The Fox and the Hound, and The Great Mouse Detective.

Michener worked as animation supervisor on the TV series Timeless Tales from Hallmark, Midnight Patrol: Adventures in the Dream Zone, Gravedale High, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventures, and The Adventures of Don Coyote and Sancho Panda.

His last artistic contribution was as illustrator for the award-winning children’s book, How Butterbees Came to Bee.

Michener was a nephew of Pulitzer Prize-winning author James Michener.

Michener died February 15, 2018, in Los Angeles, California. He was 85.
