Bryce Dion

Bryce Dion was a sound mixer, camera operator and assistant director who worked on numerous reality television programs, including Trading Spaces, Jail, Top Chef, Container Wars and Cops.

Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, Dion attended St. John's Preparatory School in nearby Danvers. He began his television career in the early 2000s and went on to work on dozens of shows in the reality genre.

Dion died on August 27, 2014, in Omaha, Nebraska, when he was accidently shot by a police officer while in production on an episode of Cops involving a standoff between police and a robbery suspect. He was 38 and had been with the program for seven years.

"We are deeply saddened and shocked by this tragedy and our main concern is helping his family in any way we can," Langley Productions, which produces Cops, said in a statement. "Bryce Dion was a long-term member of the Cops team and a very talented and dedicated person. We mourn his passing. An investigation is ongoing and we are cooperating with local authorities.”

According to the producers, Dion was the first crew member to die in the line of duty in Cops' 25-year history. The show, which aired on Fox for for than 20 years, now airs on the cable outlet Spike TV.
