Bernard Glasser was a producer known for his work on science-fiction movies such as Return of the Fly, Crack in the World and The Day of the Triffids.

Originally a substitute teacher at Beverly Hills High School, Glasser borrowed money from his landlord to invest in Hollywood’s Key West Studios and went on to produce Gold Raiders, a 1951 Western starring George O’Brien and the Three Stooges. He also leased the facility to producers including Burt Lancaster and Roger Corman.

After Glasser’s studio lease expired, he and Edward Bernds, the director of Gold Raiders, became partners on movies for Robert L. Lippert’s Regal Films. The pair’s work includes Space Master X-7 and Return of the Fly, starring Vincent Price. 

Later in his career, Glasser and producer Philip Yordan worked on the 1960-62 TV series Assignment: Underwater and on sci-fi films including The Day of the Triffids and Crack in the World.

Glasser’s additional credits include The Thin Red Line, Battle of the Bulge and Bikini Paradise. He also directed the drama Triangle in 1970 and then retired from the industry to break into real estate.

A Chicago native, Glasser graduated from Indiana State University and received a distinguished alumni award in 2012. 

Glasser died on January 2, 2014, in Los Angeles. He was 89.
