Amanda Peterson

Amanda Peterson was an actress best known for her role in the 1987 romantic comedy Can’t Buy Me Love.

The film starred Patrick Dempsey as Ronald Miller, the high school nerd, and Peterson as cheerleader Cindy Mancini, who Dempsey’s character pays to pretend to be his girlfriend in order to increase his popularity. Peterson also appeared in the 1986 sci-fi adventure film Explorers opposite Ethan Hawke, as well as the 1994 fantasy family film Windrunner.

Her work in television included roles on the series Father Murphy, Silver Spoons and Doogie Howser, M.D. She also had recurring roles on Boone, Jack’s Place, and most notably, 22 episodes of the NBC drama A Year in the Life in which she played Sunny Sisk. The series ran from 1987 to 1988 and was first a miniseries in 1986. It followed the story of a family a year after the death of the matriarch.

Peterson died July 5, 2015, in Greeley, Colorado, due to undisclosed causes. She was 43.
