Lisa Nishimura is Vice President, Original Documentary and Comedy Programming at Netflix. An 11-year Netflix veteran, Nishimura oversees the company's original documentary and comedy initiatives. The original documentary team strives to provide storytellers of all backgrounds with a global platform where they can share their unique narratives around the world--across geographies, languages, genders, cultures, experiences and perspectives. The current slate of films including Reversing Roe, Shirkers and Quincy, showcases Netflix's commitment to female documentarians and compelling storytelling.

Under her leadership, original documentary features and shorts have earned two Academy Awards and ten Academy Award nominations. Icarus was the 2018 Oscar winner for Documentary Film, The White Helmets was the 2017 Oscar winner for Documentary (short) and nominations include The Square (2013), Virunga (2014), What Happened, Miss Simone? (2015), Winter on Fire (2015), Extremis (2016),13th (2016), which also earned an Emmy and BAFTA Award, Strong Island (2018), and Heroin(e) (2018). Nishimura's team also is responsible for the production of celebrated documentary series including the Emmy Award-winning series Making a Murderer and Wild Wild Country and 2018 Emmy Nominated Chef's Table, and Somebody Feed Phil. Other critically acclaimed documentary series include The Keepers, Wormwood, Last Chance U, Ugly Delicious and Abstract: The Art of Design.

Nishimura also leads a comedy team that is dedicated to providing a platform for the best in stand-up, representing a vast and diverse comedic landscape including specials from Aziz Ansari, Amy Schumer, Neal Brennan, Hasan Minhaj, Ali Wong, Gabriel Iglesias, Jeff Foxworthy & Larry the Cable Guy, Maria Bamford, Trevor Noah, Jack Whitehall and Hannah Gadsby, just to name a few. In addition to discovering fresh comedic talent around the world, her team has launched global stand-up comedy specials from comedy legends including Jerry Seinfeld, Dave Chappelle, and Chris Rock, with forthcoming specials from Ellen DeGeneres and Kevin Hart.

Nishimura's comedy projects have earned multiple Emmy Award nominations and wins, including an Outstanding Variety Special win for Dave Chappelle: Equanimity, an Outstanding Writing win for a Variety Special win for John Mulaney: Kid Gorgeous at Radio City, and nominations for Steve Martin & Martin Short: An Evening You Will Forget For The Rest Of Your Life, Patton Oswalt: Annihilation, and Jerry Seinfeld: Jerry Before Seinfeld. Additionally, comedy projects including Dave Chappelle: The Age of Spin, Jerry Seinfeld: Jerry Before Seinfeld, Jim Gaffigan: Cinco, Sarah Silverman: A Speck of Dust, and Kevin Hart: Now What have received Grammy nominations.
