Marc Johnson, Interactive Media

Marc Johnson is a veteran of the digital media industry, with over 20 years of experience developing diverse, award-winning interactive media and technology products for Fortune 100 and other leading companies. He led digital departments at ABC Digital Media (ABC.com and Oscar.com) and Ovation TV, heading multiplatform strategy, platform, product and online content development. Johnson also created and ran multi-disciplinary teams at the intersection of strategy, creative and technology at noted agencies HUGE, United Future, Chandler Chicco, Icon‐Nicholson NY, Deutsch Interactive, Total Training and Neoscape. In 2013, he founded marcato digital, a digital media consultancy working with creatives and companies on digital strategy and development especially in the entertainment space.

 

For the past five years, Johnson served on the Interactive Media Peer Group Executive Committee, including three years as co‐chair of the Emmy Awards Working Group.

 

Johnson’s passion for innovative digital experiences has produced many award-winning products for varied clients from media companies such as ABC, Disney, NBC Universal, ESPN, Fox Sports and Universal Music Group, to progressive technology solutions for Sony, Philips, AT&T, Verizon American Airlines, Mercedes-Benz and Yokohama Tire, to websites and other online applications for Citigroup, Chase, Pfizer, Empire Blue Cross-Blue Shield, Western Digital, The New York Public Library and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

 

Johnson received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University, majoring in cognitive psychology and applied math/computer science, and pursued graduate studies in psychology and cognitive science at NYU. He served on the faculty at Harvard and Columbia Universities, and was both a project sponsor and a mentor for the AFI’s Digital Content Lab. In the early days of his career, Johnson applied his musical training from Harlem School of the Arts and Mannes College of Music (now a division of The New School) as a musical director, arranger and orchestrator for Broadway, Off-‐Broadway and regional productions, and he currently plays piano and directs an L.A.‐based a capella singing group.
