Alan Whicker, British TV Figure for 60 Years

Whicker's World, his long-running BBC series, took him around the world.

Alan Whicker, a British television figure known for the BBC documentary series Whicker's World, which aired from 1959-1990, died July 12, 2013, in Jersey, England. He was 87..

According to news reports, the cause was pneumonia.

Whicker broke into television following service in the British Army during World War II.

He achieved fame for his long-running series as well as the respect of generations of colleagues, many of whom shared effusive tributes upon news of his passing.
