Social Buzz: Top TV Shows, February 15-21, 2015

The new, the old, and the 40-year-old.

Television Academy and Unified

If you weren’t tweeting about John Travolta’s awkward red carpet moment or one of the other highlights from the Oscars, perhaps you spent your 140 characters talking about the landmark premiere of SNL’s 40th season or Felix Unger and Oscar Madison’s hilarious relationship. This week, we looked at the premieres of SNL:40, Vikings, and The Odd Couple; the finales of Two and a Half Men and State of Affairs; and the release of streaming newcomer Bosch. We wanted to know which of the following triggered the most social buzz:

  • The series premiere of Amazon Studios’ newest production Bosch
  • The remake of the hit 70s TV show The Odd Couple
  • The tense standoff and uncertain ending of State of Affairs
  • Charlie Sheen’s absence from the finale of Two and a Half Men
  • Ragnar, Rollo, and Bjorn’s newest adventures on the premiere of Vikings
  • The beginning of SNL’s 40th season and Darrell Hammond’s first premiere as the show’s new announcer

The Social Totals

Fans’ excitement for Saturday Night Live’s 40th anniversary translated clearly to social, as the show received over 2.6MM engagements on Facebook and Twitter.

Active Audiences

Although SNL:40 takes the cake with market share, we see here that The Odd Couple makes an unconventional comeback when audience size is incorporated into the equation. The show received a tremendous amount of activity on Twitter with 773.0 engagements per 1K followers. On Facebook, SNL:40 still came out on top with 449.3 engagements per 1K fans.
