William Asher, Director of Classic Series I Love Lucy and Bewitched

William Asher, a director of such iconic television shows as I Love Lucy, Bewitched and Gidget, died July 16, 2012, in Palm Desert, California. He was 90.
A prolific director with a charmed career, Asher helped to shape comedy series that have endured to this day.
He also directed John F. Kennedy's Inaugural Ball and Birthday Special with guest singer Marilyn Monroe
Asher received four Primetime Emmy nominations, all for directing Bewitched, and won once — in 1964.
Bewitched starred Asher’s then-wife, Elizabeth Montgomery, as a witch married to a mortal.
Other TV credits included Fibber McGee and Molly, The Patty Duke Show, Gidget, Marcus Welby, M.D., and Alice.
In addition to his television resume, Asher directed such feature films as Beach Party, Beach Blanket Bingo and How to Stuff a Wild Bikini.
In 2000, Asher had the distinction of being interviewed by the Television Academy Foundation's Archive of American Television.
