Kevin Gill, Director and Producer Who Helped Shape MTV

After playing a key role in the early days of MTV, Gill worked extensively on daytime dramas.

Kevin Gill,a director and producer who played a key role in the early days of MTV and went on to work widely in daytime television, died May 2, 2012, in Venice, Calif. He was 54.

Gill joined MTV in 1983, two years after the cable channel launched. Among other duties, he directed the original VJs and their guests in the MTV studio.

After leaving MTV he directed such daytime dramas as General Hospital, Loving and All My Children.
