Ian Abercrombie, Seinfeld’s Mr. Pitt

On Seinfeld, the British-born Abercrombie made a lasting impression as the eccentric publishing executive who was the boss of Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Elaine Benes.

Ian Abercrombie, an actor best known for the role of Mr. Pitt, the eccentric publishing executive on the popular television comedy Seinfeld, died January 26, 2012, in Los Angeles. He was 77.

According to news reports, the cause was a heart attack.

Classically trained in his native England, Abercrombie, born September 11, 1934, began his career in his youth during World War II. After years of stage success in Britain, he began working in the U.S.

His film credits included The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Sweet Prince and Stalag 17.

His numerous television credits included Get Smart, The Six Million Dollar Man, The Education of Eddie Roberts, Knots Landing, Happy Days, Fantasy Island, Santa Barbara, L.A. Law, Falcon Crest, Dynasty, Twin Peaks, 21 Jump Street, Days of Our Lives, Birds of Prey, Desperate Housewives, Wizards of Waverly Place and many more.

In addition, he worked extensively as a voice-over performer, with credits such as Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties, Rango and Green Lantern.

He is survived by his wife.
