Over the course of four decades, Kaplow was an important figure at NBC News and ABC News.
Herb Kaplow, a broadcast journalist who spent many years with both NBC News and ABC News, died July 28, 2013, in Arlington, virginia. He was 86.
According to news repots, the cause was a stroke.
During a busy and prolific career as a reporter and correspondent, Kaplow covered the White House and 10 presidential campaigns, landmark events in the civil rights movement, the Cuban revolution, NASA and much more.
Born in New York City in 1927, Kaplow was studying at Queens College when he was drafted into the Army. During his military service, he gained his first media experience when he worked for the Armed Forces Radio Service.
After the war he returned to Queens College, where he earned a degree in history. He then pursued radio professionally t New Jersey station WCTC before moving to Chicago to study journalism at Northwestern.
From there he went back to radio at NBC affiliate station WRC, which led to television. He retired from ABC in 1994.
