Gail Levin, Director and Producer of Acclaimed PBS Documentaries

Gail Levin, a director and producer known for her work on the PBS documentary series Great Performances and American Masters, died July 31, 2013, in the Bronx, New York. She was 67.
According to news reports, the cause was cancer.
Levin was born in Chicago and later moved to Omaha,Nebraska, with her family. She studied education at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, after which she went to graduate school at Wheelock College in Boston. She began working for Boston television station WBZ in the 1970s, and in the ’80s she relocated to New York City to pursue further TV work.
Her Great Performances documentaries included Guys and Dolls: Off the Record and Making The Misfits. For American Masters, her credits included James Dean: Sense Memories, Marilyn Monroe: Still Life, Jeff Bridges: The Dude Abides and Cab Calloway: Sketches.
